How to express your attitude

As you know, different idioms, colloquial phrases and parenthetical words make any language much more diverse and richer. Thanks to them, your interlocutor understands your point of view and your state of mind. These words help your speech to "flow" fluently; while you are analyzing the information and pick the words, these phrases are uniting the fragments of your thoughts. And first of all, they show your attitude to the topic of discussion. All of us have our own opinions and we cannot speak only stating the facts.

1. To say about something that is possible or impossible in your opinion, we use the structures:

Можно + инфинитив - One can + infinitive
Можно сказать, что лето было теплым - One can say that the summer was warm.

Нельзя + инфинитив - One cannot + infinitive
Нельзя утверждать, что мы много знаем о космосе - One cannot say that we know about the space a lot.

Субъект + может + инфинитив - Subject + can + infinitive
Он может себе позволить дорогую машину - He can afford an expensive car.

Субъект + способен + инфинитив - Subject + to be able to + infinitive
Он не способен прокормить семью - He is not able to provide for his family.

Субъект + в состоянии + инфинитив - Subject + capable of + infinitive
Он в состоянии принимать решения - He is capable of making decisions..

2. To express confidence or uncertainty, we use:
Наверное (probably), конечно (certainly), мне кажется (I guess), я думаю (I think), я полагаю (I suppose), я уверен (I'm sure), возможно (perhaps), вероятно (probably), может быть (maybe) (also the option - inversion "быть может").

Наверное, студентам тяжело пришлось во время экзаменов - Probably, students had difficulties during their exam period.
Мне кажется скоро будет дождь - I guess, it will be raining soon.
Я думаю, что у этого режиссера талант - I think this director is very talented.
Я полагаю, что стоит перенести поездку - I suppose we should reschedule our trip.
Я уверен, мы справимся с любыми трудностями - I'm sure we will get over difficulties.
Возможно я был не прав - Perhaps, I was wrong.
Вероятно, пожар начался из-за жары - Probably, fire has been started because of heat.
Может быть он поступит в университет, может быть нет - Maybe, he will enter the university, maybe he won't.

3. To express agreement or disagreement, we use:
Я согласен (I agree), я не согласен (I disagree), наоборот (on the contrary), напротив (on the contrary), вовсе нет (not at all).

Я согласен, что нужно платить квартплату вовремя - I agree that we should pay our rent in time.
Я не согласен с правилами парковки - I disagree with the parking rules.
