According to the structure, interjection in Russian can be simple and complex. They are represented by:
• notional wordы (кошмар /nightmare/, батюшки /good gracious/, господи /good God/, боже /lordy/, жуть /dread/, простите /excuse me/, извините /I'm sorry/, благодарю /thank you/, скажите /just fancy/, давай /let's do it/, погоди /hang on/, здорово /great/, ага /aha/, эх /heh/, ой /yikes/)
• set expressions (вот те на /dear me/, ничего себе /strike me pink/, слава богу /thank goodness/, да брось ты /give me a break/)
Often interjections are followed by additional gestures, facial expression and intonation. Also, they are closely connected with echoism for animals and sounds of nature. They can be divided into words and expressions according to the meaning:
• expressing emotions and feelings (ах /ouch!/, о /heh/, вот это да /it's a groove!/, ой-ой-ой /oh, dear!/, ишь ты /fancy that/)
• galvanizing into action (эй /hey/, марш /go/, стоп /stop/, айда /come on/, брысь /scram/)
• designating etiquette norms (спасибо /thank you/, пожалуйста /please/, здравствуйте /hello/)
