Практически на всей территории бывшего СССР встречаются клопы-солдатики. Это наземные клопы с яркой красно-черной окраской. Они живут колониями около пней или стволов деревьев. За поведением этих насекомых особенно любят наблюдать дети. В народе их просто называют "солдатики". Это одно из первых насекомых, которое появляется весной и очень любит солнечный свет и солнечное тепло. В колониях этих солдатиков имеет место каннибализм, то есть эти насекомые могут поедать друг друга. Они также питаются семенами растений.
