In the world there are forty-two sorts of a dahlia. These are long-term bright flowers with large heads. The first dahlias have been found by Spaniards in Mexico in 1525. Indians used them for food and as epilepsy medicine. In 1787 the director of the Madrid botanical garden Kavanilyes has grown up dahlias from the seeds sent him from Mexico. From Spain dahlias were brought to England (1798), to France (1800) and at the same time to Germany.
